Pope Francis has stated that “avoiding pregnancy” (as opposed to abortion) is not an absolute evil, and spoke out in favor of the use of contraceptives to avoid the spread of the Zika virus. In the case of certain other viruses, he added, contraception is not only an understandable decision but one that could count on God’s wholehearted approval, such as would have been the case for the parents of Donald Trump.
